Campaign · Awaiting substantive response

The Fight Has Changed

A clinician-led call for interdisciplinary action.

An invitation was sent to the governing leadership of APA, ACA, AAMFT, and NASW to discuss a standing interdisciplinary coalition of practicing clinicians. No acknowledgment or response has been received by the organizer as of this update.

The request is straightforward: our professional identities should remain distinct, while our shared problems deserve shared action.

This is an invitation to institutional leadership — not an attack on the associations or on their members, many of whom already do this work.

The proposal

The Four Requests

The fourth matters most: a coalition should have the capacity to generate meaningful institutional advocacy, not merely conversation.

  1. 01

    Acknowledge the Invitation

Acknowledge the invitation and identify the appropriate decision-maker.

  2. 02

    Convene the Professions

Convene an initial public or accessible interdisciplinary meeting including practicing clinicians from psychology, counseling, social work, and marriage and family therapy.

  3. 03

    Establish a Standing Coalition

Propose a standing, clinician-inclusive structure to coordinate work on insurer practices, reimbursement and clawbacks, workforce development, AI, clinical quality measures, and value-based care.

  4. 04

Put Institutional Weight Behind Collective Action

As the interdisciplinary coalition identifies specific areas of advocacy with strategic plans for change, support those initiatives with the full weight of the participating professional associations.

Standard of response

What counts as a meaningful response?

  • A named association representative.
  • Acknowledgment of the proposal.
  • Commitment to contact the other associations, or an explanation of why not.
  • A proposed initial meeting or timeline.
  • A clear pathway for practicing clinicians to participate.

Before you write

Principled Advocacy

  • Write ONE personalized email to your own association, or to the four governance contacts if you have a cross-professional perspective.
  • Introduce your credentials and experience, name a concrete shared problem, and ask for a response.
  • Please do not use automated mass mailing, repeated messages, threats, or personal attacks.
  • Send from your own address and follow up once after a reasonable interval.
  • You do not need to belong to an association to express your view, but state whether you are a member.

  • — Do not misrepresent anyone's endorsement.
  • — Do not imply that silence proves opposition.
  • — Do not engage in harassment or publish private contact information.
